Can I convert my 3D file to STL or OBJ?
MakePrintable can convert to STL, OBJ, SVG, 3MF and G-code. Check the list below to see what files we can convert

What 3D file format can I upload?

My repaired model's file size are too big, how can I make them smaller?
Your model probably has a lot of polygons, the more polygons you have, the more granular the details of your model will be. We added a polygon optimisation feature, which allows you adjust the number of polygons in your model, which in turn reduces the size of your file.

When importing files from Google Drive or Box, My Models section is empty?
It usually happens when you log in from Facebook, Box, Google or another social login. The email address associated with your social login is different than the one you used to sign up for MakePritnable. To access your old files, just sign out and sign back in with your initial email account.

Why when I download the fixed model, you download the original model?
If your download the STL version, we actually send you both the orignal and fixed model. Check out the zipfile you should find them both.

Why do the holes in my model get closed after the repair process?
Our algorithm must have thought the hole was a non-manifold. We are working on creating a boolean operation. For now our recommendation is to have your model oriented vertically.

I repaired my model through MakePrintable but it still has issues
Try different settings such as changing the orientation, scale or quality type of your model. Still not successful, please contact Customer care.

What does the hollowing feature do? And benefit do I get from using it?
Hollowing re- mesh's your Model, removing all the inside mesh's turning it empty from the inside. It will also add an escape hole to allow material to flow through it. It's perfect if you would like to reduce the material cost of your 3D print, as it removes time and material expenditure.

Is there a way to make a hollow model without escape holes?
MakePrintable currently adds an escape to help reduce the cost of your 3D print. We will be adding a feature to control the size, and number of holes.

The escape hole for the hollowing feature is too small?
Well soon be adding features to control the escape hole.

Does MakePrintable have plugins so that I can streamline my 3D printing workflow?
MakePrintable is working on a whole range of plugins, we currently have a Blender and Sketchup plugin, and are working on a few others. We also create an app inside Thingiverse's utilities tools. For more details about our plugins, check out our plugin section.

Where do I download the SketchUp or Blender Plugins?
You can download them from the Plugins section on the top of the page. Direct link: https://makeprintable.com/plugins

Does MakePrintable have a G-code reverser?
MakePrintable can convert G-code on other formats into STL or Obj. Although we don't have a convert button on our application, the proper way to convert G-codes is to upload it and let it go through the repairing process then you can download it in STL, Obj or 3MF format

I'm concerned about uploading my file to cloud and privacy settings?
After uploading your 3D model you can tick the secure option. Select this feature to protect your model from being seen by MakePrintable and our server providers. An encryption process will be added to the model before it's prepared and decrypted at the final stage.

What’s the difference between quick and advanced repair?
Quick has default settings for easy and fast 3D file repair and advanced repair you can choose from different settings

How do I scale, orient and transition a 3D model on MakePrintable?
Once you upload your 3D file you will prompt to the configuration page. On the top of the page you can find editing tools to scale, orient or transition your 3D model

What are the benefits of using MakePrintable?
MakePrintable is the easiest and fastest way for you to take a 3D modeling or CAD file and automatically repair holes, repair non-manifold issues, check for watertightness and optimize and repair the file for 3D printing.
